London Fashion Week – What to Expect of SS14

Keeping in touch with your stylish side can be incredibly difficult if you struggle to keep up with the latest trends; it also poses a formidable task due to the fact that we often discover these trends as they are waning. This is one of the reasons as to why Coathanger has decided to give you a rundown of some of the most significant trends at London Fashion Week and what this means for SS14.
LFW Day One
Jasper Conran:
As Jasper Conran’s SS14 line made its appearance on the first day of the London Fashion Week we knew that SS14 was going to be good. The line was primarily comprised of white, yellow and much darker shades such as navy and black.
At Coathanger we weren’t surprised to see that simple, elegant designs with bold lines and clean collars had replaced the much cheaper embellishments and adornments. Each piece drew attention to the hips and natural curves of the model without looking overly tailored or uncomfortable.
LFW Day Three
Mulberry:
On day three of LFW we were introduced to the SS14 line of Mulberry. Mulberry’s line was almost an echo of the line presented by Christopher Raeburn on the first day; but there were small adjustments to match that of the Mulberry style.
Similar to the Christopher Raeburn models – Mulberry presented their models in specific styles. The most compelling of the styles were the pieces made from light, flowing materials and enhanced with small yet detailed patterns.
However, there were also a number of models exhibiting matching shorts and jackets – the shorts and jackets, unlike the lighter styles, were particularly clean cut and decorated with a simple floral design.
LFW Day Five
Fashion East:
Unlike the designs by Mulberry, Fashion East presented us with 3D textures and outrageous designs. Pink, white and neutral colours were still present throughout the display; often in the form of long, classy coats and impressive, if not eccentric dresses. Oversized bows were also in abundance but despite the proportions, each piece looked as if it were made for durability and comfort – much like the styles that we are currently seeing in AW13.
What Does this Mean for SS14?
This means that to develop the perfect look for SS14 you must look out for:
Tops in neutral colours such as white, yellow, pink and cream with crisp collars or large bows.
Long skirts that either flow with your curves or if you’re looking for something a little more interesting; follow Fashion East and their eye catching designs.Simple footwear (ankle straps and gladiator sandals are ideal)
One of the key things to remember for SS14 is that the majority of styles include something with an exaggerated length; this could be anything from long necklaces, to long coats or skirts that reach your ankles.
